We are seeking a Scientific Reviewer to support the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH), world renowned National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities

  • Performs review of research grant applications and/or contract proposals.
  • Searches databases and resources for and prepares lists of potential reviewers.
  • Prepares preliminary drafts of summary statements and/or technical evaluation reports.
  • Assists with the entry of review data into databases.
  • Assist the FTL with writing and editing scientific documents, including but not limited to grant proposals, scientific manuscripts, book chapters, contract proposals, and annual reports.
  • Assist with editing and submission of ClinicalTrail.gov reporting.
  • Submit manuscripts and abstracts for clearance using approved business systems.
  • Perform submission of approved manuscripts and abstracts to meeting organizers for review.
  • Receives critiques from reviews and makes edits for resubmission.
  • Collect and tabulate abstracts from scientific staff, uploads abstracts into a database for record preservation.
  • Edit, and reorganize scientific posters in preparation for final publication and submission.
  • Assist the FTL with editing and writing scientific and regulatory communications with collaborators in support of LMIV’s advanced clinical trials.
  • Uses software programs to assist with scientific presentations to create professional slides in preparation final submission.
  • Makes summary slides and reports of works in progress to share with teams and communicates progress of workflows with the teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field with at least five (5) years of scientific review or scientific writing experience.
  • Minimum of five years of related experience writing for grants, funding awards, program reports, manuscripts, and other technical scientific publications.
  • Background in biology, chemistry, and/or biophysics.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. More advanced experience and familiarity with PowerPoint and other graphics programs such as BioRender. Knowledgeable with using SharePoint.

  • Must have depth perception, have correctable near vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and perform repetitive activities.
  • Ability to work alone and closely with others, work protracted or irregular hours, work on slippery or uneven working surfaces, and work with hands in water.
  • Will be required to be in contact with human blood or other body fluids.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, and lab coat.
