Overview

We are seeking Anesthesiologists to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Hampton VA Medical Center in Hampton, Virginia. The Anesthesiologists will be responsible for covering a range of Anesthesiology services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility and the standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding currently recognized nationally.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent on-site care for military Veterans.
  • Study, diagnose, and treat illnesses, injuries, and other ailments.
  • Provide preventative care, detect developing health problems, and give advice to help patients develop healthy habits.
  • Perform and document preanesthetic assessments and evaluations of the patients.
  • Perform requested consultations and diagnostic studies.
  • Inform and obtain consent for anesthesia from patients.
  • Select, obtain, or administer the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis, and to correct responses to the anesthetic or surgery.
  • Appropriately manage a patient's airway.
  • Manage emergence and recovery of patients from anesthesia.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent degree from a school in the United States or Canada.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience; minimum of 3 years’ experience providing on-site Anesthesia staffing services.
  • Must have a current active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Board Certified /Board Eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency is required.
  • VA Experience preferred.
  • Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
