We are seeking a Scientist to support the overall functions of the Vaccine Research Center (VRC), NIH: 



  • Design fit-for-purpose formulation and stability studies and lead execution of those studies.
  • Execute studies for the evaluation and development of stable formulations for the vaccine candidates at VRC, including the following subtasks
    • Generate samples for analysis using standard laboratory techniques (buffer prep, dialysis, dilution, etc.)
    • Analyze samples employing spectroscopic, calorimetric and other instrumentation.
    • Design studies in collaboration with team members.
    • Analyze, collate and interpret data in collaboration with team members.
  • Develop and execute assays for biological product characterization, formulation development and stability testing of recombinant protein-based vaccines, proteinaceous nanoparticles, and virus-like particles.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to formulation team members.
  • Present data in small group, department and conference settings.
  • Coordinate and execute routine maintenance and troubleshooting (problem diagnosis and repair) for laboratory instrumentation, including spectrometers, calorimeters, particle characterization and robotics systems.
  • Write and review technical reports and protocols documenting formulation, stability andmethod development studies.


  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in vaccine formulation in an industry setting.
  • Experience with data analysis software.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Strongly Desired:

  • Solid knowledge of the protein chemistry; understanding of biophysical and bioanalytical properties of proteins and biologics a plus.
  • Experience with biologic stability and/or forced degradation studies.
