CAMRIS International is looking for a Business Development/Marketing Director to join its Business Development team is supporting the Pilot Bioproduction Facility (PBF) at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland. This person will be responsible for identifying and understanding the needs of PBF to determine how PBF’s vaccine production offerings can be applied effectively to improve knowledge, quality, and performance of the PBF facility. In order to do so, s/he will conduct research to identify opportunities for expanding the vaccine production funding and leverage the organization’s quantitative and qualitative data from current and past projects to formulate strategies and insights that help facilitate new business. S/he will also be responsible for managing current customer relationships. This will involve working with the WRAIR PBF teams to provide ongoing updates, including salient points related to the impact of the PBF program that customers can share with their internal teams. It is also expected that s/he will be able to use this information to make recommendations for future projects, where appropriate. By effectively communicating the value of the PBF’s approach with vaccine production to new and existing customers, the Business Development/Marketing Director will be able to drive new business and increase the organization’s footprint in the marketplace.



The role of Business Development Manager will involve:

  • Work under direction of CAMRIS and the WRAIR PBF Department Heads, and in cooperation with multi-disciplinary team of colleagues at the PBF, to manage and delivery on the following tasks and objectives:
    • Development of business proposals and plans.
    • Financial planning, budgeting and administration.
    • Key strategic focus on growth and success of PBF’s active engagement with business partnership opportunities with military and private laboratories.

New business origination:

  • Research vaccine production practices, identify product opportunities and develop concepts, research market size and assess potential value;
  • Competitive intelligence – monitoring, compilation and analysis of competitor products, new markets and emerging trends;
  • Conceive and develop presentation and promotional materials (literature, website content, presentations for partnering meetings and conferences);
  • Plan and execute the PBF’s promotional engagement (e.g. scientific conferences, partnering and investment events);
  • Contract drafting, development and negotiation.

Participation in the identification and assessment of new product opportunities:

  • Scope to including in-house development programs, engagement with third party organizations seeking vaccine production to enable their own drug development programs, collaborative and fee-for service relationships, in-licensing and M&A;
  • Commercial input to development projects: market research and valuation, business intelligence, competitive analysis and monitoring, commercial forecast, financial analysis;
  • Selection and engagement of development partners: lead generation, initial engagement with prospective partners, site visits, financial modeling and valuation of contract economics, develop financial terms and draft commercial proposals;
  • Partnering efforts – drafting, negotiation and conclusion of contractual agreements with vaccine development partners (e.g. technical evaluation contracts, development collaborations, licensing, commercialization and supply agreements);
  • Relationship management – development partners, licensors and service providers;
  • Contribute to writing of regulatory documents (e.g. IND applications and updates, clinical trial protocols, investigator brochures, FDA briefing packages, other regulatory filings).

Project management:

  • Ensure delivery of key objectives from collaboration, partnership and service contracts;
  • Supplier selection: prepare RFQs, solicit bids and tenders;
  • Select preferred supplier/partner, negotiate formal relationship terms and draft contracts, budgets;
  • Track expenditures against budgets, monitor performance of suppliers and contractors and authorize payments;
  • General administration (e.g. insurances, premises, equipment leasing, utilities and services contracts, taxation and business licences; Intellectual Property filing and management).
  • Travel as required to industry conferences, partner and client meetings and collaborating institutions.


  • 3 years experience in business development within pharmaceutical / biotech industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field related to life sciences industry
  • Preference will be shown to applicants who have one or more of the following attributes:
    • MBA or similar business qualification;
    • 5 years experience in BD within pharma/biotech;
