The Bureau for Global Health (GH) is USAID’s primary provider of technical expertise, leadership and donor coordination for health, including programming and international policy development related to HIV/AIDS, malaria, other infectious diseases, maternal and child health, family planning, reproductive health, nutrition, and health systems strengthening.
Within GH the Office of Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN) is USAID’s technical and policy lead on maternal and newborn health, child survival, immunization, environmental health, and nutrition, with a focus on preventing child and maternal deaths. Within MCHN, the Nutrition and Environmental Health Division (NEH) provides global technical leadership to USAID Missions, host governments, partners and stakeholders to improve nutrition and food security strategies, policies and programming. The Division works with various USAID operating units and partners in the implementation of nutrition and food security programs, including Preventing Child and Maternal Deaths, Feed the Future, Title II Cooperating Sponsors/Private Voluntary Organizations, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) partners, and host-country institutions.
The U.S. Government (USG) Water Strategy 2018-2023 provides an increased focus on sustainability, scale and country selectivity, uses emerging science and technology and embraces partnerships for long-term impact. Within the Strategy, USAID targets 13 focus and 12 aligned countries for increasing access to sustainable water and sanitation services and increased adoption of evidence-based hygiene behaviors.
The Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Senior Advisor, based in the NEH Division, provides WASH expertise for USAID’s WASH and nutrition portfolio across the Agency. The Advisor serves as a focal point for programming and technical guidance related to WASH engineering, research, monitoring and evaluation, sustainability, and other environmental health priorities. The Environmental Health (EH) Team Lead is USAID the point of contact for this position.
Provide Global Technical Leadership to Agency Programs on WASH.
Serve as senior subject matter expert to MCHN Office, Bureau-wide project team(s):
Assessing current health literature and international guidelines, and providing recommendations to USAID.
Contributing to the routine work, including providing technical updates, briefers and other documents that describe USAID’s activities, research and progress; preparing portfolio reviews and reports; reviewing documents such as annual reports and operational plans; and preparing responses to Q&As and other requests for information.
Assisting countries in developing their capacity to plan management activities.
Assisting international and local partners at the country level.
Providing expert technical advice to ensure that country programs are consistent with current practice, international standards and recommendations.
Contributing public health expertise and participating in working groups, task forces, and advisory boards.
Other duties as assigned.
