Our core practice areas include HIV/AIDS, microbiology and infectious disease research, vaccine research, development and production, global health security, biodefense, and clinical research.  This position will support the Pilot Bio-Production Facility (PBF) at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland.


  • Provides comprehensive office IT support to the Pilot Bioproduction Facility (PBF)
  • Assists in making continual improvements to the Pilot Bioproduction Facility (PBF) IT systems
  • Serves as an emergency responder in the event of IT system outages, security threats or failures
  • Collaborates with WRAIR leadership and IT staff on network optimization and security
  • Manages an annual budget for PBF IT support, licensing and maintenance expenses
  • Contributes to system configuration and design
  • Defines, documents and enforces DoD, PBF and system standards
  • Monitors and maximizes network performance through routine monitoring and reporting
  • Troubleshoots network problems and outages
  • Schedules upgrades and supervises system hotfixes
  • Configures and maintains and virtual machines, routers, switches, and applications
  • Troubleshoots and resolves firewall traversal issues WAN connection issues (BGP/VPN etc…)
  • Configures active directory and group accounts and updates for cGMP equipment


  • Must have at least a BS/BA in information technology or engineering.  An MS or better is a plus. 
  • Must have Cisco and Microsoft certifications
  • Must have been employed for a minimum of 2 years at a regulated facility with at least 5 years of experience in IT hardware and infrastructure
  • Must have at least intermediate skills in Word and Microsoft Excel, along with good grammar, spelling and proofreading skills and attention to detail.  Skills in Microsoft Access and LIMS systems a definite plus.
  • Must be able to work independently and with significant initiative.  Some nights or weekends may be required.
  • Aseptic gowning and entering cleanrooms may be required.
  • Must be able to follow directions and written policies and procedures for all work responsibilities.
  • Must have good people and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Certification a plus.
  • Network+, CCNA certification preferred
  • Biologics industrial automation experience preferred
