The Naval Medical Research Unit – San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) is located at the San Antonio Military Medical Center on Fort Sam Houston. NAMRU-SA’s mission is to conduct medical, craniofacial, and directed energy biomedical research, which focuses on ways to enhance the health, safety, performance, and operational readiness of Navy and Marine Corps personnel and addresses their emergent medical and oral/facial problems in routine and combat operations. The Supply Assistant position, employed via CAMRIS International, provides support to key mission requirements performed at NAMRU-SA. The Supply Assistant will report to the Assistant Head, Resource Management Department. The incumbent will be responsible for performing duties and complying with NAMRU-SA policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload government property, equipment and supplies.
  • Receives, processes, and informs end-users of all incoming shipments to NAMRU-SA.
  • Scans into computer, files and maintains documentation of all received orders.
  • Handles shipments of various materials, some of which may be classified as diagnostic or infectious.
  • Works with Purchase Card Holder (PCH) to insure completeness of received orders.
  • Upon direction of Equipment Manager (EM), enters received equipment information into Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (D.M.L.S.S.) database.
  • Ships outgoing items for NAMRU-SA.
  • Maintains supply inventory for NAMRU-SA and informs EM of supply shortages.
  • Distributes supplies to NAMRU-SA staff as requested.
  • Use required materials handling equipment including pallet jacks, carts, and hand-trucks.
  • Assists Bio-Medical Electronics Technician (BMET) in relocating equipment as needed for researchers.
  • Assist BMET with gas cylinder pick-up/placement within laboratories in building.
  • Transfers equipment and supplies between NAMRU-SA occupied buildings as needed.
  • Assists EM in performing inventory of D.M.L.S.S. equipment and notifies EM of discrepancies.
  • Arrange, request, operate, and acquire a variety of vehicles in support NAMRU-SA functions from Fort Sam Motor Pool and Logistics Management Office.
  • Assists EM in gathering, loading, unloading, and turning-in of equipment no longer needed by NAMRU-SA to Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (D.R.M.O.).
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  1. High School diploma and at least three years experience in the ordering, receipt, and management of equipment and supplies - preferably within the Department of Defense;
  2. Excellent communication and customer service skills;
  3. Knowledge of the Navy’s Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support System (DMLLS); the work at this level requires knowledge of DoD supply regulations, policies, procedures, and instructions; This knowledge is used to conduct extensive and exhaustive searches for required information; and
  4. Proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel Software programs.
