Summary

 

CAMRIS International is seeking a Public Affairs Assistant to support the Administrative, Management & Organizational Services (AMOS II) FOR NMRC. This program will provide administrative, managerial, and organizational type services in support of military medical research, including budgets, operational surveys, studies, and analyses on matters related to the NMRC mission at Silver Spring, MD. The mission of NMRC is to conduct research, development, tests, and evaluations to enhance the health, safety, and readiness of Navy and Marine Corps personnel in the effective performance of peacetime and contingency missions and to perform other functions as directed by higher authority. The services shall include performing office functions such as setting up and maintaining files, arranging meeting and conferences, receiving or answering mail, answering telephones and greeting individuals. May assist in reviewing drafts and finished documents for appropriate grammatical usage, and answer questions related to office operations. May assist with the gathering, collecting, recording, and verifying data of multiple sources, with the capabilities of utilizing software to compile and generate reports, statistics, timelines, tables, graphs, correspondence, and presentations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a public affairs specialist in a headquarters organization, supporting the NMRC Public Affairs Officer.
  • Provides public affairs support for the command. Assist in responding to NMW PAO,
  • BUMED PAO and NMRC collateral PAOs on routine matters. Interacts with news media representatives and members of the public on routine matters (does not act as spokesperson for the command).
  • Editor of the monthly newsletter to include all day to day aspects with attention to detail related to content, layout, photography, graphic design, final preparations for distribution etc. to meet established deadlines. For planning purposes, maintains the NMRC newsletter editorial calendar (1 year) and includes aligning future content with NMW, BUMED and MHS/DHA themes, topics and special events, reoccurring events, etc. Covers NMRC laboratory stories and works with the NMRC collateral PAOs for articles, input, etc. Final product requires NMRC PAO review and approval prior to distribution. Familiar with the AP Stylebook.
  • Has skills in interviewing a variety of people and gathering information from many differ sources for newsletter articles and other public affairs information products.
  • Has skills in evaluating the news value or communication potential of visual materials including photographs and illustration.
  • Maintains a routine review calendar (every six months) of the content on the NMRC public web site and works with NMRC departments and NMRC web master to update content and assist the command web master to post, all new content must be reviewed and approved by the NMRC PAO.
  • Maintains NMRC Facebook page, all content must be approved by NMRC PAO prior to posting. When requested, provides social media content to BUMED PAO for posting to their site.
  • Coordinates projects (work orders) between NMRC PAO and MAVS. This will require becoming familiar with the MAVS database for requesting and tracking work orders i.e. graphic, photographic, posters, etc. When MAVS is not able to support will coordinate with BUMED VI (Bethesda) at WRNMMC.
  • Provide internal photography support for NMRC as needed.
  • Maintains easily retrievable digital photo (with cutlines) library of all publicly releasable NMRC photos.
  • Maintains the building 503 NMRC display cases, works closely with NMRC PAO and Army MAVS to produce graphics, posters, etc. for the display cases.
  • Assists with planning, organizing, and documenting special events sponsored by NMRC.
  • Explore potential the social media platforms to promote NMRC, with review and approval by NMRC PAO.
  • Must be able to travel locally to cover NMRC off site laboratories and events supporting NMRC programs and research.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of developing marketing packages, inclusive of newsletters, media kits, brochures, trade show displays, and other information products.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team leader.
  • Typing skills with at least 50 WPM.
  • Word processing skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of general office machines and telephone system.
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to interact with news media representatives and members of the public on routine matters (does not act as spokesperson for the command).
  • Knowledge in editing monthly newsletters to include all day to day aspects with attention to detail related to content, layout, final preparations for distribution etc. to meet established deadlines.
  • Have skills in interviewing a variety of people and gathering information from many different sources for newsletter articles and other public affairs information products.
  • Has skills in evaluating the news value or communication potential of visual materials including photographs and illustration.
  • Maintains a routine review calendar (every six months) of the content on the public web site and works with NMRC departments to update content and the command web master to post, all new content must be reviewed and approved by the NMRC PAO.
  • Familiarity with Social Media, such Facebook etc.
  • Familiarity with working with databases for requesting and tracking work orders i.e. graphic, photographic, kiosh, etc. When MAVS is not able to support will coordinate with BUMED VI (Bethesda) at WRNMMC.
  • Ability to maintain easily retrievable digital photo (with cutlines) library of all publicly releasable photos.
  • Ability to work with other Departments to produce posters, etc. for the display case.
  • Ability to assists with planning and organizing special events.
  • Must have an active Secret security clearance.

Educational Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field of study with public relations/public affairs experience or coursework.
