CAMRIS International is seeking a Laboratory Technician for NAMRU-SA.  The Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRUSA) is a major research center conducting medical and directed energy biomedical research, which focuses on ways to enhance the health, safety, performance, and operational readiness of Navy and Marine Corps personnel and addresses their emergent medical problems in routine and combat operations. NAMRUSA conducts basic and applied research to

  • Determine safe exposure conditions for personnel working with or near directed energy devices, including lessthanlethal weapons,
  • Develop diagnostic and treatment methods for directed energy causalities,
  • Conduct research on the protection, care, and resuscitation of combat casualties, and
  • Identify and effectively mitigate operational stressors and improve survivability for combat forces.


  • Perform a variety of laboratory tests and assays in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations in a designated technical department.
  • Interpret results, subject to verification by Supervisor, and providing allowance by State regulations.
  • Under supervision of senior technical staff, optimize and execute laboratory assays for development of novel treatments and diagnostics in the field of maxillofacial injury and disease.
  • Collect and analyze data from experiments involving testing of antimicrobial therapies using in vitro and in vivo models.
  • Assist in preparation of protocols, technical reports, data summaries, manuscripts, and presentations.
  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Provide summaries of previously published research to support design of experiments.
  • Present data summaries during laboratory meetings.
  • Perform general laboratory support tasks such as preparing SOPs, maintaining clear and accurate laboratory records and inventories, routine biosafety procedures to maintain compliance with established laboratory safety rules, and maintaining supply inventory.
  • Track cost for laboratory supplies ordered.
  • Maintain chemical inventory/ MSDS in compliance with regulatory agencies for the laboratory.
  • Maintain waste management records/disposal records for hazardous material used in the laboratory.
  • Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures for the Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine Directorate, reporting any discrepancies to the safety officer.
  • Inspect eyewash stations for the Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine Directorate, reporting any discrepancies to the safety officer.
  • Work with the Safety Officer to ensure that safety protocols are up to date and that all personnel actively working in the laboratory are following the established safety protocols.
  • Liaise between the Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine Directorate and the purchasing officer.



Characteristics of the ideal candidate:

  • Experience and hands-on knowledge of in vitro and in vivo model systems;
  • Experience with laboratory safety protocols and/or similar certifications and training
  • Knowledge of computer software, including the Microsoft Office Suite and graphics software

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related fields with at least five years of experience;
  • Experience and hands-on knowledge of theory and use of state-of-the art equipment and techniques, including but not limited to: flow cytometry, real-time PCR, protein quantitation and analysis, nucleic acid quantitation and analysis, particle size analyzer, confocal microscope, UVVIS spectrophotometer, and atomic absorption spectrometer.
